poor performance and poorer dependability  
I am sorry to say that I have owned 4 of these units over the last several years. The first one was a predicessor to this model. It lasted about one summer then died. The next year we moved to a larger piece of property so I purchased 3 more thinking that I had caused the first one to die by putting it in a outdoor shed for the winter. No such luck. One of the next three died within 6 months. The next two lasted through the first summer and winter only to have one stop working about a month into the next summer. It would start up but the fan would not work nor the lights but it would get very hot. I stopped using it for fear of a fire. The last one lasted about a month longer then stopped working all together.

Performance wise all of the units worked only marginally. They catch a lot of bugs but most are not mosquitos. I used both types of attractants and regularly changed the paper traps and propane. Will not try one ever again. : 2010-09-16 04:55:12

Much better than mosquito magnet  
The mosquito magnet conked out after a couple of seasons. Even when it was working the power would sometimes go out in our house in the country so the whole thing would turn off. With the Skeetervac the machine runs on the propane without additional power-what a great idea. And there are no cords. And the cover keeps everything clean. Works pretty well  
Unlike prior years I did not have much of a mosquito problem this year on my half acre lot. The propane lasts about 20-25 days. I did not have any re-light problems after letting it run dry like some of the reviewers did. It may be expensive to own and maintain but its worth it to me to get my "outdoors" back. Didnt help with mosquitoes here in Virginia  
Bought this and ran it faithfully for the entire summer last year and would excitedly pull out the trap catcher and see maybe 2 mosquitoes in there. A bunch of bugs were stuck to the outside but our mosquito issue was not improved at all. I am sure it helped the others who wrote positive reviews but am sad to say it didnt do squat here in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. : 2010-09-15 08:53:58

Trying it for gnats not mosquitos  
We live in the Southwest and have a lot of gnats in the foothills of the mountains here. The unit certainly attracts them but Im not sure yet whether it can keep up with the large number of gnats. Weve only had the unit for one month so the jury is still out. The unit is certainly well designed. We love the fact that there are no power cords. : 2010-09-15 08:53:58

If you cannot light it after emptying a tank  
I have a SV3100 SkeeterVac and had difficulty lighting it after I let the first tank run dry. I searched online for a solution and found this review for SV5100 http://www.amazon.com/review/RMR82OKS1HD1Z/ref=cm_cr_pr_viewpnt#RMR82OKS1HD1Z. I was tempted to follow the steps in there but decided to call the customer service first. I was told 2 things: 1. Dont open the valve on the tank too much; 1-1.5 turns only. 2. Theres something need to be equalized. Just shut off the tank and take off the regulator. Then keep pressing the control button for 1 minute. Then put the regulator on the tank again.

I followed the 2 steps and successfully lighted it again. : 2010-09-15 08:53:58
